 Luxor is an open air museum, the preservation of the monuments in the Luxor area are wonderful. Karnak is north of Luxor, the ancient Egyptians called it Waset, that is on the west side of the Nile across from Luxor. The Mummification Museum, the Luxor Museum, the ruins of the Temple of Mut and The Valley of the Kings are all popular places of interest. Howard Carter's discovery of the Tomb of Tutankhamun made history, people travel just to see his tomb and it’s treasures. The Temple of Luxor built by Amenophis III. There are other beautiful areas to see such as Karnak Temple, (open air Museum) Roman chapel of burnt brick dedicated to the god Serapis which was built during the rule of Hadrian. The Franciscan Church. Some tombs can still be seen as one heads towards the Temple of Seti I. There are 25th and 26th Dynasty tombs. The Temple of Mentuhetep I, Hatshepsut and Thotmose II are a must see, Past remains of the temples of Ramesses IV and Thutmose III are also in good condition. Southwest of Deir el-Medina is the Valley of the Queens, where queens of the 18th and 19th Dynasties are buried. the workmen Village ,the Colossi of Memnoon and many more places to visit.
The city has all the amenities one would expect such has a variety of hotels, bars, nightclubs and restaurants. Luxor area is a major tourists attraction in Egypt. It has been a tourist destination since the beginning of tourism. During the late Dynasties of the Greek and Roman periods, the area was attracted by tourists and has been doing so ever since.
